What is Tubular Breast, How Is It Diagnosed?
The tubular breast is a deformity that is noticed when breast growth begins in young girls. It often manifests itself in the form of large breast halos and sagging breast tissue resembling a tube.
We asked Plastic Surgeon Sevgi Kurt MD:
“The tubular breasts often appear as pointed or snoopy-like, raised nipples. Disproportionately large nipples, narrow, pointed breast curvature are typical examples of tubular breasts.
Sometimes Mild, Sometimes Severe
Many patients who still have disproportionate breast appearance despite passing through adolescence seek help from plastic surgery to get rid of this appearance.
But in fact, tubular breast diagnosis is a much more important issue. Sometimes this condition can be very mild or hidden and the patient may only want their breasts to be raised or enlarged.
However, a breast jobs in the classical sense should not be performed on a patient who has not been diagnosed with tubular breasts.
Therefore, it is very important that the surgeon is aware of this issue and recommends the appropriate surgical method to the patient.
Tubular Deformity Makes Breast Augmentation Difficult
Tubular deformity of the breast makes breast augmentation a real challenge. Sometimes the operation may require multiple adjustments, sometimes reoperation or sequential surgery.
It is not sufficient to use only breast implants for patients with tubular breasts, due to the narrowness of the base of the breast, the fact that the breasts rest on the breast wall, and the unusually narrow area.
Fat Transfer To The Breast Can Also Be Done
In tubular breast deformity surgery, there are important issues that need to be operated carefully, such as reducing the large areola, which we call nipple halos, lifting the sagging of the breast, changing the posture and constrictive ring problem, intervening in the separation of the breasts, choosing the right implant size according to the holistic feature of the body.
Although we use implants most of the time, breast fat transfer can also be performed in the right patient.”
