What Defects Are Corrected in Eyelid Surgery?
What the eye expresses is more effective than what the tongue says… It is the unfiltered mirror of emotions and thoughts…
The first communication between people starts with the eyes, we learn to trust at that first glance, we perceive anger and resentment at first sight.
A line from Victor Hugo's poem "Glances" reminds us of the importance of preserving the integrity of meaning in the eye...
“What a look can tell a lover, a look makes a lover cry for hours…” Eyes, which have a task beyond looking and seeing, have a great importance in facial aesthetics.
The eyes and the eye area are also adversely affected by the aging process. Just like our skin, problems such as sagging of the eyelids, formation of fat sacs around the eyes, and under-eye bags occur.
These problems affect the person negatively in terms of health as well as aesthetics. The sagging of the eyelids impairs the visual angle and causes the limitation of the field of view.
The whole of operations, in which interventions are performed on the areas around the eyes, known as eyelids, are one of the most important stakeholders of facial aesthetics.
Eyelid surgeries have a high success rate when performed in the right hands and with realistic expectations.
However, as in all other cosmetic surgeries, there is a possibility of obtaining erroneous results in eyelid surgeries.
Philadelphia Surgeon Julius Newman said, "Anyone can do eyelid surgery, but it doesn't get good results."
With over 20 years of experience, Ozgul Ugurtay MD answered our questions about “Eyelid errors”…
What Defects Are Corrected in Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgeries are performed to correct deformities around the eyes due to aging.
The holistic eye contour aesthetics are completed with procedures such as correcting the drooping of the lower and upper eyelids, especially the eyelid aesthetics, removing the fat sacs formed in the lower eyelid and stretching when necessary.
How Many Years Is Eyelid Surgery Repeated?
The results obtained after eyelid surgery are long-lasting.
It is said that it will take 10-15 years as a false information, but it is thought that the problem here is that the drooping of the eyelids is repeated due to the drooping of the eyebrows, which started around the age of 60-65.
What Are the Complaints After Eyelid Surgery?
The most common complaints after eyelid surgery; It is dry eyes and temporary sensitivity at the seams that can last up to 6 months. It is recommended to use a support product to solve all these complaints.
Tear drops are recommended for eye redness and dryness, and eye drops for burning and watering.
It is normal to see swelling in the eyelids as a result of the surgical procedure performed after eyelid surgery.
This is a temporary situation, and usually at the end of the first week, the swelling goes away and within 1 month, intermittent, variable swelling attacks can be seen.
Can Lens Be Used After Eyelid Surgery?
We do not recommend the use of lenses in the first week of eyelid surgery. Normal glasses should be used in the first week. At the end of 1 week following the surgery, contact lenses can be started.
Is Eyelid Surgery a Risky Surgery?
As with any other type of surgery, there may be a risk of infection below one percent in eyelid aesthetics.
Due to its well-blooded structure, the eye is not easily infected with germs, but short-term antibiotic use may be recommended after the operation. Another risk of eyelid surgery is scar formation.
Scar formation is possible due to the incision sites of the surgery, but this scar will heal within 1 month at the earliest and within 1 year at the latest.
Is There a Possibility of Failed Eyelid Surgery?
More important than the eyelid operation are the measurements that must be taken carefully before.
If the measurements cannot be taken correctly and a good planning cannot be made, it is possible that the eyelid remains open or tension occurs while sleeping.
Therefore, the experience of the physician is very important.
In lower lid aesthetics, excessive skin removal leads to more serious problems. An unfortunate complication may develop when the lower lid is pulled down, which we call the fish-mouth appearance.
Therefore, the decision and size of lower lid operations should be considered and planned many times according to the upper lid.
What Happens if the Person is not Satisfied with the Result After Eyelid Surgery?
The recovery period and the final appearance after eyelid surgery will take approximately 3 months. It would not be correct to make a comment before the eyelid movements return to normal.
The person should give himself a chance to adapt to his new appearance, wait for the stitches to be removed, the swelling to go down and the natural movement ability to be regained.
When the waiting period is over, it is important to remember that there is a compensation for everything in the presence of unsatisfied situations and to keep the morale high.
